Touching up some rock chips on the nose of my 2016 Challenger before swap meet season and the parts counter asked me for the paint code, which stopped me cold because I realized I have never actually looked it up. I know the color name Dodge marketed, but the counter guy wants the code, not the poetry. Which code on my paperwork or on the car itself identifies the factory paint color? Is it on a sticker somewhere on the body, or do I need to pull records for it?

Both. There is a code on your equipment record for the paint line, and most cars this age also carry it on a label, commonly in the driver door area or under the hood area depending on plant. Records are the tiebreaker if the label is gone.

Take the code from paper, then have the counter mix to code and spray a test card before touching the car. Same code can vary batch to batch, and a nose full of chips deserves a blend check.

When you find it, put the code in your phone notes forever. I get asked mine at every meet and I love being the person who answers instantly.
