The elder statesman of my fleet, a 2012 Grand Caravan, needs some parts and the counter wants specifics I can only get from its equipment history. Newer vehicles seem to have records a click away, but this van predates a lot of the current tooling. How do I find the build sheet for an older Grand Caravan like this? Are records from that era still retrievable by VIN, or do vans of a certain age fall off the digital map? Surely somebody here has archaeologically excavated a Caravan record before.

Excavated several. Records that age are hit and miss through the usual online lookups, but they exist. Try the VIN tools first, and if the van comes up empty, a dealer parts department can usually read the equipment history from their system with the VIN.

The 2012 records are generally still retrievable, so try the standard VIN lookup before assuming it fell off the map. Older than the mid-2000s is where it gets genuinely archaeological. Your van is old, not ancient.

Old, not ancient made my week. Standard lookup worked on the second tool I tried, full equipment list retrieved. The elder statesman rides again, correctly parted.
