What is a Dodge build sheet?

A build sheet is the factory's own record of how one specific vehicle was assembled. For a Dodge it lists every sales code — engine, transmission, axle, paint, packages, and options — tied to the VIN.

It's the most reliable way to confirm how a used Charger, Challenger, or Durango was originally configured — far more dependable than a badge or a listing.

What the build sheet shows

Powertrain, trim, exterior and interior colors, wheels, option packages, and dealer-installed-at-factory equipment — the details that explain why two cars with the same model name can feel completely different.

I finally pulled the full factory record for my 2021 Challenger and it is a wall of three-character codes, dozens of them. Some have obvious abbreviations next to them, others are cryptic. Before I go down a rabbit hole: what do these three-character sales codes actually represent as a system? Like, is the first character a category? Are numbers versus letters meaningful? I would love to understand the logic instead of looking up codes one at a time forever. Is there a structure, or is it arbitrary?

There is loose structure. Codes in the same family often share a leading character, paint lives in its own P-prefixed world, and packages tend to cluster, but plenty of it is historical accident accumulated over decades. Treat the printed abbreviation as the source of truth rather than trying to derive meaning from the characters.

Every option, package, color, and even market designation gets one code, one line. The system is a flat catalog, not a hierarchy, so do not overthink the characters themselves. The abbreviation column plus community lists cover ninety-nine percent of what you will meet.
