What is a Dodge build sheet?

A build sheet is the factory's own record of how one specific vehicle was assembled. For a Dodge it lists every sales code — engine, transmission, axle, paint, packages, and options — tied to the VIN.

It's the most reliable way to confirm how a used Charger, Challenger, or Durango was originally configured — far more dependable than a badge or a listing.

What the build sheet shows

Powertrain, trim, exterior and interior colors, wheels, option packages, and dealer-installed-at-factory equipment — the details that explain why two cars with the same model name can feel completely different.

On performance models it separates the genuine hardware — Scat Pack, SRT, Hellcat equipment — from appearance packages that only look the part.

Sales codes explained

Stellantis / FCA vehicles use 3-character factory sales codes on the build sheet. One package code can bundle several smaller features, so reading the sheet carefully tells you what the car actually carries.

Factory data is the baseline, not proof of current condition — wheels, audio, and trim may have changed since delivery, so use the sheet alongside photos and an inspection.

Finally pulled the full factory paperwork for my 2018 Challenger and something odd jumped out: there are two different paint-looking codes on it, in two different spots. The car is one color, always has been, no roof wrap, no stripes from the factory that I know of. So why would my Dodge show two paint codes? Is one primary and one secondary even when they match? Or does one of them refer to something else entirely, like interior or trim paint? Curious before I invent a conspiracy about a resprayed car.

No conspiracy. Factory paperwork carries a primary and a secondary paint line on every car, and on a monotone build the second either repeats the first or carries a placeholder-style entry. Two-tone and stripe cars are where they genuinely differ.

Also, one code near the paint lines is often the interior trim color, which reads like a paint code to the untrained eye. Match each code against its printed abbreviation and it will sort itself.

Checked the abbreviations like you said and yep, one is exterior, one is the interior color group. My car has led an honest life after all.

This thread just saved me from the same panic, because my paperwork shows two codes as well and I was already composing the worried post. Monotone club, apparently all of us have twins on paper.
